Hi! I’m Christine Malinda Peart (a.k.a. Malinda P). Welcome to REFOCUS-ON-U. REFOCUS-ON-U is about managing the Five Rs: Rest, Relax, Refocus, Renew, and Relive. It is also about trusting God completely.
Fourteen years ago my life took a dramatic turn for the worse. One minute I was hanging out, laughing with family and friends, and the next minute I not only couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t even walk or move. It happened that fast.
For several months, the doctors couldn’t give me an accurate diagnosis. They prescribed unnecessary and unhelpful drugs because they frankly weren’t sure what was going on. During that time, I couldn’t walk, drive, cook, or even take care of myself; I was totally dependent on others to care for my every need.
One day, my aunt called me and reminded me of a scripture in the Bible, James 5:14: “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders for the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” Immediately, my mother and I headed up to Killeen, TX, where my aunt and other family members prayed earnestly over me as the pastor anointed me with oil.
In answer to those prayers, the Lord led me to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. After a year of undergoing numerous tests and examinations, I was diagnosed with a terminal autoimmune disease called Polymyositis, with Anti-synthetase Syndrome and Interstitial Lung Disease. I began to question God, as fear, denial, and depression overwhelmed me. “Why me, Lord?” Oh, how helpless I had become! I had no control over my life, and I feared the worst.
In 2017 my lung condition continued to deteriorate, and I was forced to medically retire after 23 years of service with the Department of Defense. At the time, my lung capacity was at less than 25%, and the doctors told me that I would need a double lung transplant in order to survive.
One day, I realized that I’m not alone. Many people face health hardships, whether they have been misdiagnosed, are waiting for a cure, or are dealing with catastrophic news from their doctors. I had to redirect my thoughts. I surrendered to God and asked Him to take control of my life.
When at last I chose obedience, God led me to a place where physicians and other medical staff taught me about the eight laws of health and how my diet directly affected my disease. Because I knew of so many others out there also suffering with debilitating illness or life threatening disease, I decided to start a non-profit ministry called Refocus-On-U to help, educate, and motivate others who deal with health and life hiccups to turn them into victory. My main goal is to help beautiful folks (like you) reach your fullest potential by focusing on revitalizing your spirit.
By trusting and obeying God, my life has turned around for the better. I am so excited to be alive, and I’m currently enjoying living as if I had no terminal illness. People I meet often ask me what my secret is for living an abundant life. The best answer I can give is: I simply live by faith.
I am constantly reminded of 2 Corinthians 12:8–9, Three different times. I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ Now, I am happy to boast about my weakness, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
