Chia Seeds

Spread the love

I know, you have just replayed in your head the song from a commercial from years ago that used to advertise the chia plant. The ad featured planters usually shaped like heads or piglets full of little holes, which, when watered, began to grow out the famous plant. While it used to be a big hit for the novice gardener, who could enjoy the thrill of watching something grow at the window sill, it turns out the cha-cha-cha chia has a lot more value to it than just sitting at the window all day.

The chia seed contains the majority of our daily essential nutrients, packed with protein, omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. It is food that is safe for diabetics and those who suffer from gluten allergies. Some of the benefits of introducing chia seeds in your diet are:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids: This nutrient has properties that keep the body in an anti-inflammatory state, which ameliorates arthritis, high blood pressure, and many cancers that can arise from the body enduring repeated trauma.
  • Dietary fiber: Fiber is good for binding up excess fat, which helps to lower cholesterol. Fiber also promotes regularity in bowel movements, which can stave off many ailments that arise from being chronically constipated.
  • Protein: Protein also allows the body to feel full, decreasing your desire to eat between meals.
  • Vitamins: Chia seeds contain folate acid, thiamine and B vitamins that help build a healthy neurological system.
  • Minerals: Because it has a healthy source of calcium, phosphorus, manganese, magnesium and iron, it helps build the blood and strengthens muscles and bones.

While this is just a small seed, it is strong enough to curb your craving if you are willing to try it. Why not sprinkle some on your cereal in the morning or add it to your smoothie and watch it work? You may be pleasantly surprised by its useful effects.
