Acne

Spread the love

When your pores become clogged as a result of oil and bacteria, the skin begins to erupt. It especially affects the face, neck, shoulders, and arms.

This can often be very disconcerting for those who suffer from acne which can often lead to feelings of low self-esteem. While there is no outright cure for acne, there are some things that you can do to minimize the number of outbreaks you may have.

  • Sugar: High glycemic index foods prompt the body to make a hormone called insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF-1) which in turn tells the body to produce more sebum. Reducing processed foods which are generally very high on the index can reduce acne by up to 50 percent.
  • Smoking: Tobacco has very harmful by-products, which deprive the skin of much-needed oxygen and nutrients. This can exacerbate your skin condition.
  • Hair care products: Think about it, conditioners and shampoo, do not just remain in your hair, they drip down into your face, be careful of the products you use, they are filled with all kinds of chemicals that promise silky, radiant hair, but could, in fact, be causing problems for your skin.
  • Dairy Products: These products have components that are related to testosterone, which is a hormone that can cause oily skin, and in turn create an environment for acne to thrive.
  • Water: This is nature’s cleanser inside and out, replacing your beverage of choice with water can decrease the number of skin eruptions you may have because water helps transport toxins out of the body.
  • Fried foods: Eating less fried foods and more fruits and vegetables; helps to decrease your acne by reducing the number of free radicals running through your bloodstream.

Remember what you see on the outside reflects what’s happening on the inside. While most of us have experienced acne during the adolescent years, making wise decisions about your health and keeping your stress levels down, can help you keep things a lot smoother.
