We Need Security

Spread the love

Exodus 3 vs.14(NKJV)
And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’

I have often wondered why God would come to a man and ask him to go on a long and perilous journey with a group of angry, contentious people, with very few supplies, little protection from the elements, and limited modes of transportation. It seemed more prudent to have allowed Moses to deliver his Hebrew people when he, the adopted relative of a pharaoh was the trusted head of all the armies of Egypt.  He spoke their language with ease, a young, strong, fearless man, with many connections.  Instead, God approaches Moses when he is working as a shepherd and has forgotten the language of the Egyptians.

A humble man with very few means, having no power, influence, or authority.  To leave his home would mean he was giving up job security, safety, abundance, confidence, and a place of hiding.

In exchange for walking away, God sent not just a word for the Hebrew children but a word for Moses as well. Tell them that I AM sent you.  There are seven times that God uses this declaration to express who he is, and it is followed by metaphors that more fully expound on its meaning.

I AM the Bread of Life

I AM the Light of the World

I AM the Door of the sheep

I AM the Good Shepherd

I AM the Resurrection And the Life

I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life

I AM the True Vine

God is saying to Moses and all of us, I AM the one who provides for you, I AM the one who gives you understanding, I AM the one who opens new opportunities for you, I AM the one who guides you, I AM the one who gives life to what you thought was dead and gone, I AM the one who keeps you safe, I AM the one who sustains your life.

So if you should ever come to a place in your life, where God is all you have, it is then that you discover that God is all you need.
