Judges 16 vs. 15 (NIV)
Then she said to him, “How can you say, “I love you”, when you won’t confide in me? This is the third time you have made a fool of me and haven’t told me the secret of your great strength.”
When we read this story, most of us think we would never be so foolish. As much as we would like to blame Delilah, in truth, the problem was not her. She had made it clear what her intentions were. Three times she had set him up, three times her deceitfulness nearly cost him his life, yet he kept going back, and he paid dearly for that decision because he decided his desire for her was more important than his very life. You say you would never be that foolish, and yet the top three killers in America today are entirely avoidable.
When plaque builds up on the artery walls, the blood flow from the heart is restricted, when blood flow is slowed down, this creates an environment for heart attack or stroke.
The uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells. Interfering in body systems and if not treated aggressively, will lead to death.
Chronic lower respiratory disease:
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is the most common ailment of the lungs causing blockage of airflow. Would it surprise you to know that the one thing that is the common denominator to these top three killers is smoking, that’s right, cigarettes are the new Delilah? Many have laid up with her, enjoying her sweet carnal delights, only to wake up at 4 in the morning feeling like an elephant is standing on their chest, gasping for air, or coughing up blood.
No one thinks that day will ever come, the day when they wake up and find their strength is gone, but that is what is happening to more than a million people every year. Some poor soul who thought they were stronger than a few leaves wrapped in a white paper, if only they had known that hidden behind the door, were stone cold killers who were writing the music to the lullabies that Delilah would use to sing Samson to sleep. Please wake up, my friend. The Philistines are upon you.
