2 Kings 20 vs. 7 (NIV)
Then Isaiah said, “Prepare a poultice of figs”. They did so and applied it to the boil, and he recovered.
Figs are rich in fiber, magnesium, manganese, sodium, vitamin B6, vitamin K, potassium, and calcium. They help to increase bone density and lower blood pressure. They also contain minerals such as vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, iron, phosphorus, and chlorine.
Because figs are packed with many vitamins and minerals, they can give you a boost of energy. Thus, many people believe figs help with sexual dysfunction like sterility, endurance or erectile dysfunction.
Figs are loaded with calcium, which is necessary for strengthening bones and lowering your risk of osteopenia and osteoporosis. Figs also contain a lot of phosphorus, which helps in the formation and healing of bones that have been injured.
Figs contain high amounts of fiber, which can help decrease your bouts with constipation, and it also helps in the elimination of free radicals, which reduces your levels of toxicity in the body making you less prone to immune weaken illnesses.
The American Diabetes Association recommends figs as a high-fiber treat that helps reduce the amount of insulin needed by diabetic patients. Because figs are rich in potassium, they regulate the amount of sugar absorbed by the body after meals, this makes blood sugar spikes and falls less frequent.
The health benefits of figs also extend to having antibacterial and antifungal properties. Studies have found that extracts from fig leaves were powerful enough to kill off certain strains of bacteria. Because figs contain these healing properties, laying a poultice of figs on a boil would help bring the core of that boil to the surface causing it to burst, giving the area the much-needed relief.
