Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said. – Joshua 14:12 KJV
The Hebrew people lived as slaves for 400 years, this made their descendants predisposed to fears, phobias, mental anguish and pain. Caleb being a part of this large caravan had different ideas than most of these people. He had, for forty years, the desire to fight Anakims. The time had come when he could not wait any longer. He was upset that every year his people were in the wilderness, the Anakims live in his land rent free. God had made a promise to his people that he would be with them as they began to take rightful ownership of what was theirs.
God has said that above all things, “be prosperous and in good health.” While all of us desire this, we are often willing to allow bad habits and undermining thoughts to set up house in our bodies and minds rent free. This saps our strength and robs us of our health, wealth and peace of mind. We make feeble attempts at driving these habits and thought squatters out. Unfortunately, we are dissuaded by the level of work it would take to drive out the habits and freeloading thoughts. Instead, we live with the dream of what could be rather than the bountiful reality we could enjoy by taking what is rightfully ours. May you have the courage to claim what is and has always been yours!
