Priming The Pump

Spread the love

Proverbs 4vs.23 (NLT)
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

There is a tale of a man who had traveled a great distance.  On his journey he had run out of food and water, he came upon an old homestead that had been vacated, but there he found a pump which led to a well, on top of the pump was a bowl of water and note, it said welcome stranger.

If you have found this place then I can assume you have come upon hard times and are very thirsty, while you may be tempted to drink this bowl of water to satisfy your tremendous and immediate thirst, I plead with you to use this bowl of water to prime the pump, for if you do this you will have water not just to meet your present need but to carry you along your entire journey.

“Prime the pump” it means to take some action to help something succeed, we do it for our water pumps, we even do it to support our countries, economy, yet each of us carries within our chest a heart that pumps oxygen and blood throughout our entire body, a small organ that beats more than 100,000 times in a day and pumps about 2,000 gallons of blood a day.

My question for you is, are you priming your pump?  Are you giving your heart what it needs so that it can sustain you along your journey, or have you acted out of a desperate state, gratifying an impulse and not taking into account the future?

The pump that your very life depends on needs a diet that emphasizes fruits, vegetables and grains, a strict limit of saturated and trans fats, sugars and sodium, and an active interest in controlling your waistline.

If you are reading this article you have probably traveled and experienced many mishaps on your journey, May you dare to pour this bowl of information into your life, and watch the sustaining strength and power of your good spring growth.
