Living With A Lie

Proverbs 23:23(KJV)
“Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.”

When I was a little girl, I would read the funny papers on Sundays. At that time, the cartoons were toward the back of the paper, along with the advertisements. I remember one particular week I saw an advertisement that promised to send you three hundred dollars, and all you had to do was mail in three dollars. Well! That didn’t seem like a lot of money, especially since ten days after they received my investment I would be rich. Unbeknownst to my family, I counted out three bucks from my piggy bank and mailed it in.

That Monday, I went to school with the belief that in ten days I was going to be rich. I shared the story countless times with my friends, and of course I promised that the following week there would be candy for everyone. Everything I did that week was influenced by my belief that my life was about to change. All week, I floated on cloud nine; I was finally going to unseat my arch rival, who was king of kickball! Maybe I couldn’t kick a ball very well, but with a pocket full of Blow Pops, my social status was about to change.

The way you live your life is a true reflection of what you believe. Do you take care of yourself in a way that says your life is valuable? Do the choices you make say that you believe you have a future? Is there a truth that you wish to aspire to, but every day you allow yourself to be taken in by the lie? The greatest tragedy is not that you have been fooled with a lie—the tragedy is living a lie while knowing the truth.
