I Can See Cleary Now

Spread the love

Matthew 6:22
The eye is the lamp of the body; so, then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light

While glasses are a fashion statement for many, for me, they were a necessity, and I grew up in a time when there was pretty much one style available, the pointed glasses that looked like cat’s eyes.  It’s needless to say my high school dating drought was sealed by those glasses.  I grew to hate wearing glasses so much that once I decided not to wear them and ended up offending many friends who had seen me out that weekend and thought that I was ignoring them when, in truth, I never saw them.

As you get older, there is a new enemy to fight; you are no longer trying to preserve your vanity but trying to figure out why there is a cloud floating past your eyes, when there isn’t a cloud in the sky, or why you need longer arms just to read a book.

Eyes are the windows to what’s going on inside of you.  Doctors are able to diagnosis diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, liver problems and a host of other ailments just by looking into your eyes. While your eyes age along with everything else on your body, you can do things to maintain their health:

  1. Foods that are high in vitamin C help maintain the health of blood vessels in your eyes.
  2. Foods that are high in vitamin E are beneficial against cataracts and macular degeneration.
  3. Foods that are high in Vitamin A help strengthen your eyes for night vision.

Most of us take our vision for granted and do not realize its importance until it begins to fail us in one way or another, which is why it is important to see your doctor regularly and work to make changes in your habits that will bring about better vision, ensuring a more enlightened future.
