Getting What You Pay For

Spread the love

Proverbs 11vs.1(BSB)
Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, but an accurate weight is His delight.

With food prices starting to go through the roof, most of us are very conscious of the products we buy, as our food budgets are stretched thinner and thinner. These days, I have noticed that in order to make it appear that prices are not going up, some companies keep the price and packaging the same, but the amount of the product in the bag is less (more air in the bag). Yes, they display the correct weight of the merchandise that is in the bag, yet through deceptive means, they lead us to believe that we are still getting the same amount as before.

Most of us have learned to live with this kind of betrayal. It happens so much that we hardly, if ever, muster up any concern.

While we have all pretty much accepted this kind of deception, there is one that is far more deadly and has long-lasting results. Today, most advertisers show pictures of people smiling and enjoying life with their products; this is a subtle suggestion that you can have the life they portray on the packaging, but hidden is the truth of what you are getting.

You believe you are getting a cereal that fights heart disease when, really, you are getting sugar that will make you hyperactive and add on the weight. You think you are getting tobacco cured with apples when you are really getting lung cancer. You think you are getting a good wine from some valley where the grapes have been nurtured for years, but really, you are getting esophageal cancer. The next time you go to the store, may you have the courage to look at what you are buying and ask yourself what you are getting. Is it what has been promised on the package, or is it fool’s gold?
