Spread the love

Genesis 3 vs. 6 (NLT)
The woman was convinced.  She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her.  So she took some of the fruit and ate it.  Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.

The greatest tragedy of all that has been perpetrated upon a man or woman is when they are convinced that having everything is not enough.  Adam and Eve had it all, perfect health, perfect bodies, perfect home, perfect marriage, perfect job, and immortality. Moreover, still, they wanted more.

We have the benefit of reading their story and realizing that the wisdom they pursued was about to bring havoc into their life. Seeking that one last thing, caused them to lose all the right things they already had.

Is it possible that our stories read the same way, that in our quest for that one last thing, havoc lays in wait? It’s time to take inventory of what we have and place the proper value on it. Today we will look at the science of contentment and why it is so crucial today, to work at achieving it.

Research shows that there is a relationship between your emotions and your physical health.

According to Wikipedia, Contentment is a mental or emotional state of satisfaction maybe drawn from being at ease in one’s situation, body, and mind.

Today we will address four hormones that are more plentiful in the body when we are in a state of contentment.

  1. Dopamine is a hormone that works out of our pleasure center of the brain. It gives us a feeling of enjoyment and motivation.
  2. Serotonin is a hormone that contributes to your overall feeling of well being, and because 90% of this hormone is found in the intestinal tract its aides in a good bowel movement.
  3. Oxytocin is a hormone that is known as the “love hormone” because it is released during sexual activity, it is believed to contribute to feelings of trust, relaxation and a sense of psychological stability.
  4. Endorphin is the hormone that gives us that second wind, it provides a feeling of accomplishment and higher self-esteem, and decreases our perception of pain, its releases when we exercise or if we are laughing, which is why it is known as the ‘funny hormone.”

It’s time to count your blessing, it’s time to look at what you have and place the real value of what it’s worth, and you may find that you have it all, but did not know it.
